Aust Parish Council
MEETING on 5th August 2010
Aust Parish Council called a meeting at Littleton Village Hall on Thursday 5th August 2010 at 8pm to discuss the appeal by Heritable Bank against South Gloucestershire Council's enforcement proceedings at land adjoining Quarry House, Littleton. Here is a report on that meeting:
Unauthorised Development adjoining Quarry House
As many will know, Quarry House in Littleton has now been sold. The former owners of the site have retained the right hand side of the property on which they have constructed what appears to be a separate dwelling. Now that the site has been divided, this development is unauthorised and South Gloucestershire Council has initiated enforcement proceedings to have the development stopped, and certain works undone.
The Parish Council convened a meeting of Littleton residents on 5 August to see what people think about the matter. Over 40 people attended and the general view was that to permit the building to remain and be occupied as a separate dwelling would be wrong. There was considerable anger that the developer appeared to be trying to avoid planning controls by presenting the council with a fait accompli; and that his actions meant that South Gloucestershire Council had to take action at Council Taxpayers’ expense.
Any representations about the appeal should be made to: The Planning Inspectorate, Room 3/04 Kite Wing Temple Quay House 2 The Square Temple Quay Bristol BS1 6PN. The civil parish of Aust
This is a small rural parish with a large acreage but an electoral roll of only about 400. The Council does not own any property or land nor does it provide any services like grass cutting or cleaning of public places. There are two very small parcels of registered Common Land in the parish. These are The Pound by the side of the Village Hall, Aust and The Pond in Rushen Lane, Littleton. Oversight and care of these sites are the responsibility of Aust Parish.
Councillors aim to promote the wellbeing of the parish and protect parishioners' interests. Main tasks are reviewing Planning Applications and submitting written comments and recommendations when necessary, and monitoring the conditions of roads and rights of way.
Noticeable achievements in recent years have been obtaining speed controls through Elberton and Aust villages and a 7.5 ton weight restriction on Passage Road, Aust.
Council meetings are currently held monthly, on the second Tuesday of the month, with the exception of August and December, when there are no meetings. The April Council meeting is held on the same evening as the Annual Assembly.
