'Olveston Parish Matters'

Andy Clarke, one of our Parish Councillors, writes regular articles for the community magazine, Meeting Point, highlighting local parish matters.  His latest article is reproduced here:

What a wonderful summer our Parish has witnessed so far and, aided by occasional outbreaks of timely rain, the countryside and all things natural have burgeoned into growth. While much of it has been lovely to see there are some areas that have suffered from overgrowth. The Parish Council has negotiated an agreement with South Gloucestershire to attempt a clearance of quite a lot of pathway edging, particularly round the Closes in Olveston . It will help considerably if householders whose properties about the pathways could pay some attention to clearance at their property edges too.

When dangerous trees were recently culled for safety reasons a large pile of wood remained. It has fallen to the Scouts to clear this and to try and earn a little money by selling it for firewood. Ian Knowles is co-ordinating this activity (Tel: 07766653046 or 616744) and he will soon be getting the sale moving. If you want more details please contact him by telephone. This will not only help you boost your own supplies but will provide a very useful additional income for the Scouts.

Many people will have noticed that words have turned into actions and that alterations to the Parish Hall have begun in earnest thanks to the determined work from many people, not least Natasha Harrod, Roger Smart and Katy Gundry on the Pre-School Committee. What superb facilities they will soon have. We live in exciting times.

We are pleased with our rejuvenated play-surfaces at the three play areas which will extend their life as well as improve safety. However, litter remains a problem there so we hope that you, our Parishioners, can influence those around you to be tidier.

If there are any issues you wish to discuss please contact the Parish Clerk, Valerie Tutin on 01454 613730 or any councillor.
