Olveston Sports & Social Club
Olveston Sports and Social Club was founded in 1982 at the Queen Alexandra Memorial Pavilion, which was given to the people of the Parish of Olveston by Colonel Turner in 1926 for the purpose of football. The Social Club was founded to support the sports clubs at the pavilion.
The Queen Alexandra Pavilion has been extended three times. The first extension was the kitchen area which was also the bar when the Social Club was formed. The second extension was the changing rooms, when the old brick-built bath was removed; this was where the present dance floor is now. The new changing rooms and showers extended the length of the pavilion.
In the year 2000 the middle original timber section was demolished and rebuilt and extended to the rear to provide a bar and cellar. At this time the kitchen area was remodelled to incorporate a committee room, which is where the Parish Council hold all their meetings. This room is also available for hire at the rate of £10 per evening. Upon the completion of the re-build, the main room was named the Turner Suite and is available for hire (when the club is not open) at a rate of £75 per evening.
The Social Club is open on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, Saturday afternoon and evening and some Sunday afternoons. The weekend openings support the football and cricket clubs. On Thursday evening we have poker in conjunction with the Bristol Poker League. During the late Autumn, Winter and early Spring you can join us for Bingo on a Sunday evening. Once a month we hold a quiz night in aid of charity.
The committee organise special events throughout the year which are advertised on the notice boards.
A warm welcome awaits you if you would like to come and join us. Memberships are £3 per year or £10 for 5 years.
